Whether you sell or fit oil filters, or are the end user, it is unlikely that you will view an oil filter in any more detail than that illustrated above.
The generic appearance of oil filters probably do not display sufficient external differences to justify the selection of a premium brand over an economy brand product. Many brands of filters are cosmetically similar and each is supported by their respective manufacturer's claims of "OE Matching Quality". Yet that is where the similarity ends, as the material quality and manufacturing methods employed to produce many brand products, are so far removed from the OE specification, that engine protection through effective filtration is questionable.
